Seiko Presage Style 60s ‘Ginza’ Limited Edition 140th Anniversary SSA445J1
There are just 4,000 of this limited edition timepiece available worldwide.
The design of this watch commemorates 140 years since the beginnings of Seiko Watch Corporation, as a watch and clock repair shop in Ginza, Tokyo in Japan.
From the Presage Style 60s collection: practical modern watches with retro vintage 1960s looks, inspired by the design of Japan’s first ever chronograph, originally created by Seiko in 1964 to coincide with an important sporting event in Tokyo.
The striking ‘paved’ dial pattern is inspired by the very first Western style stone street paving areas in Ginza – urban changes which spread as the area and the country as a whole began to prosper.
The blue-grey ‘Konparu-iro’ dial colour represents both today’s Ginza area – reflections of the sky in the sophisticated glass cityscape – as well as being one of Japan’s cultural colours. It is a shade which first became fashionable in the 1910s and 20s – a trend which began in Ginza, when new chemical colour dyes began to be imported.
Seiko Presage: Timeless looks, precise mechanical timekeeping. Minimalistic watch designs with a distinctly Japanese aesthetic.
The Case:
Seiko Presage Ginza Limited Edition SSA445J1 Mens 140th Anniversary Watch features a stainless steel case that measures 38mm in diameter and 12.8mm in height. The case has been treated to a brushed finish, which provides the watch with a refined lustre. It is equipped with a black aluminium fixed bezel which displays a 60-minute scale. It also features a push-pull crown at 3 o’clock and box-shaped Hardlex crystal bestowing the watch with a vintage feel. Hardlex crystal glass is also used for the case’s see-through screw down case back.
The Dial:
The design of the dial is inspired by the traditional cobblestoned streets of Ginza, but with a touch of modernity which is imparted through the soft blue-grey tones that evoke the contemporary feel of many buildings seen in Ginza today. Uniting heritage and modernity, capturing the essential characteristics of Seiko. The intricate design incorporates two different sunray designs, which create an ever-changing textured impression that captures the true feel of Ginza’s cobblestoned streets.
The dial is adorned with beautifully faceted elongated indices and a razor sharp alpha-style handset. The dial continues to pay homage to the district’s history through the seconds hand which is presented in Komparu, a traditional Japanese colour named after Komparu Street, where Ginza’s nightlife was once centred. A 24-hour sub-dial is paired with an open-heart display window at 9 o’clock, which provides the wearer with a graceful insight into the watch’s mechanisms. The dial also features a 60-minute scale and luminescent pips which are located either side of the indices. The Seiko logo is presented in silver beside the 3 o’clock marker.
The Bracelet:
This timepiece is worn on a classic 3-link stainless steel bracelet which has been treated to a brushed finish. The bracelet fastens through the use of a three-fold deployment clasp with push button release.
The Functions:
Seiko’s 4R39 automatic caliber movement powers this timepiece. It offers a power reserve of 41 hours and an accuracy of +45/-35 seconds per day. It is water resistant to 50 metres, which means that it can be worn when swimming in shallow waters.
