Hamilton Khaki Pilot Day Date Automatic Men’s Watch H64605531
The Dial:
Legibility is the driving force behind the design of the Hamilton Khaki Pilot Day Date H64605531 and is this is evidenced through a number of features. Firstly, the black dial of the watch acts as the perfect backdrop for the patina coloured bold double-digit Arabic numerals to be easily read. The numerals are also luminescent which allows for greater visibility in areas of low light. Additionally, the sword hands are also luminescent. Another distinguishing feature of the dial is the separation of the day and date windows. With the former being positioned in a curved windows beneath the 12 o’clock mark, whilst the latter is positioned above the 6 o’clock mark. Also, a sub dial displays the 12 hour time, as well as displaying the Hamilton logo.
The Case:
The brushed stainless steel case certainly looks the part. It also contrasts with the polished finish of the fixed bezel that surround the dial, creating a subtle visual barrier. Also, a screw down crown is protected by a crown guard at the 3 o’clock position. On the flip side an open case back allows the wearer the view the inner mechanisms of the watch.
The Strap:
The addition of a dark brown leather strap adds a touch of authenticity to this air-borne timepiece. It draws inspiration from the leather jackets worn by American pilots. Likewise, the cream coloured stitching bestows the watch with greater vintage appeal. Further details are provided through the Hamilton Pilot stamp and ‘H’ embossed buckle.
The Functions:
The Khaki Field also features Hamilton’s H-40 produced movement. This mechanism is made by the Swatch company, where it is laser regulated. It is also found in Tissot watches too. It is one of the most attractive features of this watch, as it offers an astounding 80 power reserve. Comparatively, a standard mechanical watch will hold time for around 40 hours. It operates at a rate of 21,600 v/p/h which is why the watch is able to boats such impressive power reserves, because it is easier on the gears. It consists of 25 jewels and you can expect to loose or gain around 7 seconds a day. The wearer is able to view the inner mechanisms, such as the ‘Hamilton’ embossed bi-directional winding rotor, through the open back case.
The watch also comes with a hacking function. When the crown is pulled out to adjust the time the second hand will stop. This allows you to set the second hand for precision timing. Once the crown is pushed back in the hands will tick from that second.
Notably this watch has a water resistance of 100 metres, making it suitable for diving.

The Family: Khaki Aviation
Hamilton’s rich heritage in aviation has allowed the brand, via its Khaki Aviation collection, to provide some of the most technically advance pilot-style timepieces currently on offer. These technical advances don’t, however, come at the expense of style, as sleek and refined case constructions are teamed with attractive dials and comfortable and varying straps or bracelets.
The Brand: Hamilton
Since its foundation in 1892, Hamilton Watch Company have developed a reputation for being a provider of accurate timekeeping. Hence they earned the title of “The Watch of Railroad Accuracy", as a result of their highly accurate pocket watches.
Hamilton earned a place in history, as they found themselves suppliers of watches to the US military in both world wars. The US Naval Lab invited the Hamilton Watch Company to create an American made chrono. There was a shortage of chronos available to the US Government during the First World War. Therefore they had to rely solely on European made pieces. For this reason Hamilton agreed in 1941 to undertake the work. Moreover, by 1944 Hamilton had produced more than 10,000 Chronometers in aid of the American War effort.
Hamilton have developed a close relationship over the years with Hollywood. Hamilton watches have featured in over 450 films, beginning in 1951 with the Frogman watch. Other films include: Elvis Presley in 1961’s 'Blue Hawaii' and in '2001: A Space Odyssey'. Furthermore, Hamilton have featured in films such as 'Interstellar' and 'The Martian'.
In 2003 Hamilton moved their headquarters to a facility in Switzerland. They are still a global force within the timepiece industry. This is because Hamilton watches offer a combination of American heritage, Swiss internal workings and a touch of Hollywood flair.
