Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical Brown Dial Green Canvas Men’s Watch H69449961 RRP £465
Background:
This Hamilton Khaki Field H69449961 is a faithful recreation of its original 1960s forebear and is true to Hamilton’s military heritage. Since 1945, Hamilton has maintained its close links to the military and has often used feedback from servicemen to refine and improve their watches as well as to help us create new pieces equal to the challenges of modern life. With partnerships with some of the world’s top military air squadrons and military academies, Hamilton looks forward to continuing the development of their signature Khaki collection pieces in the future. Inspired by the military, built to last, this is the original soldier’s watch.
The Case:
The slim 38mm case is made from stainless steel and has a matte finish to it. The matte finish almost creates a rough and ready attitude for this timepiece which would have been used in the harsh reality of the trenches. At the 3 o’clock position is the crown which once pulled out can be used to tell the time. Furthermore, the ever present Hamilton logo has been embossed on the side of the crown. Sitting in line with the case is glass made from a strong sapphire crystal material.
The Dial:
The dark dial is complemented well by the white Arabic indexes and the old radium colour hands. The hands as well as some triangular indexes around the very edge of the dial are coated in a Super-LumiNova material which allows for easy visibility at night. The time can be easily read with a three hand display as well as a 12 and 24 hour display. Additionally, the Hamilton logo can be seen towards the centre of the dial.
The Strap:
A khaki green military NATO strap is what catches the eye with this piece. It sits nicely around your wrist with a standard 20mm lug width and can be fastened using a standard pin buckle. For all you Hamilton enthusiasts, the strap reference is H600.694.104. It is sure to be a dependable and durable piece.

The Family: Khaki Field
Rugged and ready for the outdoors, the Hamilton Khaki Field collection combines easy-to-red dials with bold styling. There are also plenty of complications on offer across the Khaki Field family, such as chronographs, day and date indicators and titanium case construction, meaning that this rugged appeal doesn’t come at the expense of quality watchmaking.
The Khaki Field range pays homage to the Hamilton watches used by the United States military in 1910.
Also for the eagle eyed ‘movie-goer’ these watches have been worn on the big screen with a notable appearances include Liam Neeson in the crime thriller, A Walk Among The Tombstones.
The Brand: Hamilton
Since its foundation in 1892, Hamilton Watch Company have developed a reputation for being a provider of accurate timekeeping. Hence they earned the title of “The Watch of Railroad Accuracy”, as a result of their highly accurate pocket watches.
Hamilton earned a place in history, as they found themselves suppliers of watches to the US military in both world wars. The US Naval Lab invited the Hamilton Watch Company to create an American made chrono. There was a shortage of chronos available to the US Government during the First World War. Therefore they had to rely solely on European made pieces. For this reason Hamilton agreed in 1941 to undertake the work. Moreover, by 1944 Hamilton had produced more than 10,000 Chronometers in aid of the American War effort.
Hamilton have developed a close relationship over the years with Hollywood. Hamilton watches have featured in over 450 films, beginning in 1951 with the Frogman watch. Other films include: Elvis Presley in 1961’s ‘Blue Hawaii’ and in ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’. Furthermore, Hamilton have featured in films such as ‘Interstellar’ and ‘The Martian’.
In 2003 Hamilton moved their headquarters to a facility in Switzerland. They are still a global force within the timepiece industry. This is because Hamilton watches offer a combination of American heritage, Swiss internal workings and a touch of Hollywood flair.
