The Khaki Field Far Cry 6 – Hamilton’s First Video Game Timepiece

Our First In-Game Watch | Hamilton x Far Cry ® 6 | Hamilton Watch - YouTube

Since their first Hollywood cameo in 1928’s Shanghai Express, Hamilton watches have gone on to feature in over 500 films. The brand has earned itself a reputation for being Hollywood’s go to watch and the ‘grand watchmaker in cinema’. Hamilton watches have most recently featured in Christopher Nolan’s, Tenet, and previous to that in Nolan’s 2014 science fiction epic, Interstellar. In conjunction with both films, Hamilton produced watches that drew upon the film’s motifs and aesthetics. Notably, Hamilton finally released the ‘Murph’ watch which was inspired by the watch worn by Matthew McConaughey in Interstellar. Although the watch did play a considerably large role in the film’s plot development, it was only ever intended to be used as a prop, until it was released to the public in 2018.

But now, Hamilton has designed a watch for Far Cry 6, the latest installment in a first-person-shooter video game franchise. Hamilton explained: “Successful players unlock access to the in-game timepiece that’s equipped with a unique and original “keeps on ticking” function. The defensive wrist gear improves general defense during sprints, allows players to get in and out of danger quickly and efficiently, and will be a useful benefit for gamers as they fight for Yara’s freedom”. Omar Bouali, the game’s content director, said: “Hamilton’s Khaki Field isn’t merely an accessory choice or functional asset but is truly integrated into Yara’s history with a connection to the island’s deposed leader.”

It is the first time that Hamilton has existed in both the digital world and the real world. There is also a genuine connection between the premise of the game and the history of the brand. The game is set in Yara, a fictional Caribbean island that is controlled by a dictator, but is in the process of being liberated by revolutionary forces. You will play as Dani Rojas as you try to liberate the island, as such the watch becomes one of several items that you rely upon to do so. Omar Bouali also stated that “It may be a small detail, but it adds immense authenticity to the cinematic world we’ve created.” Furthermore, Hamilton is also renowned for being the brand that supplied American soldiers with over 1,000,000 watches during the Second World War.

The watch is limited to 1,983 pieces, which is relevant to the plot of the game because that is the year that it takes place. The design is centred around a Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium with a 42mm case. The watch is powered by Hamilton’s calibre H-10 movement and it comes presented on a leather brown NATO strap and additional brown nubuck leather strap. The design of the vinyl dial is inspired by certain aspects of the game such as, the red second’s hand which is a nod to Yara’s revolutionary forces and the split ‘6’ marker which is a reference to the game’s logo typography.

The watch will be available to purchase from October 2021 and we expect that this will become a highly collectible timepiece, as it marks Hamilton’s first step into the world of video games!
