The Case:

BALL Engineer II Watch DM3208B-S4-BK Skindiver Black Bracelet Mens is limited to just 390 pieces worldwide, this Ball Engineer II Skindiver Heritage is defined by its classic design and natural elegance. The case is crafted from PVD coated stainless steel and it measures 42mm in width. The specific PVD coating used is TiC, which is a titanium carbide coating that was developed by Tudor, it is found to be 10 times harder than steel and it guarantees the highest levels of water resistance and erosion. It also enhances the aesthetics of the watch, as it provides it with its smooth black finish. 

Sapphire crystal has been used consistently throughout the construction of the case, namely on the bezel, on the front and on the transparent case back. Sapphire is frequently used in luxury watches because it is extremely strong and it offers optimum levels of scratch and shatter resistance. The black sapphire bezel is unidirectional rotating and it exhibits a white 60-minute scale with micro gas tubes that allow the watch to be read in the dark. The bezel also has prominent easy-to-grip coined edges, which allow it to be easily rotated. The front of the watch is protected by convex sapphire crystal glass that has been treated to an anti-reflective coating, so that the dial always remains readable. On the side of the case, located next to the 3 o’clock marker, there is a pronounced screw down crown that has knurled edges that ensure that it can be easily operated at all times. 

The Dial:

The black dial pays homage to the conventionally uncluttered designs of classic dive watches. Baton-style hour markers are located around the edge of the dial, they each are illuminated by micro gas tubes so that the dial can be read in the dark. Located in between the hour markers on the chapter ring is a 60-minute scale with minute gradations. The dial exhibits a silver plongeur handset, this style of hands takes its name from the French word for ‘diver’. It has been partly skeletonized at its tip and it is illuminated by micro gas tubes. The tip of the seconds hand is presented in a bold yellow hue, ensuring that it can be seen in the dark. A small date display window is located beside the 3 o’clock marker. The Ball logo is presented in silver beneath the 12 o’clock marker. 

The Bracelet:

The bracelet is made from stainless steel and it has also been treated to a PVD coating, guareneeting the longevity of this piece. It comes stylised in a distinctive H-link fashion, which offers something different than the typical oyster-style bracelet found on most other dive watches. The bracelet also exhibits a combination of brushed and polished finishes, which complement the overall sleek all-black aesthetics of this timepiece. It fastens securely using a pin buckle. 

The Functions:

This timepiece is powered by Ball’s RRM7309-C calibre movement that provides it with an astounding 80-hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800vph. The movement is COSC certified, which means that it has been subjected to tests over a 13-day period to ensure that it meets the required standards. Only 3% of all Swiss watches are COSC certified. As well as meeting these requirements, this timepiece is shock-resistant up to 5000Gs and is water resistant up to 200 metres, which means that it can be worn when diving.
