Description

Victorinox Swiss Army Airboss Mechanical Black Dial Brown Leather Strap Mens Watch 241886

The Case:

The case of this Victorinox Airboss 241886 is crafted from high-grade Swiss made stainless steel. It measures at 42mm in diameter and 11mm in height, positioning it within the mid to upper range sized timepieces. The case is home to a tachymeter bidirectional rotating bezel that displays several readings that include the following measurements: fuel lbs, litres, lbs, kg, us gal, and oil lbs. A tachymeter is one of the defining features belonging to both the Omega Speedmaster and Rolex Daytona. It offers precision and reliability, of which are indispensable qualities belonging to an aviation watch. Also present on the case is n screw down crown that is present besides the 3 o’clock mark. The automatic movement is visible through the open case back of the watch.

The Dial:

As a watch that’s intention is to serve a practical purpose in the air, it comes as no surprise the dial simple, yet effective. Firstly, a stylised Swiss Army style font has been utilised for the raised Arabic numeral hour markers, each of which have been coated in lume. Similarly, the dauphine style hands offer peerless levels of legibility, as they are also luminescent. A date window replaces the 6 o’clock mark, likewise the Victorinox logo replaces the 12 o’clock marker.

The black dial features a subtle guilloche design that forms a loped flange ring around the edge of the dial. In turn this creates a level of depth, that is made more visible through the reheat which is also home to the circular slide rule. Upon closer inspection it becomes apparent that the red 24-hour scale is actually printed on the rear of the flat sapphire crystal, a high-contrast is created by the black background of the dial. Moreover, this makes the 24-hour scale float on top of the dial and bisect the date window, this bestows a certain uniqueness on to the watch.

The Strap:

Furthermore, the brown leather strap, comes in a typical NATO style, which is a pleasant reminder of the watches air borne roots. It has an authentic, rugged feel, that gives the watch a timeless appeal. A long leather strap is a quintessential trait of early pilot’s watches. It fastens easily using a standard buckle.

The Functions:

One of the most appealing features of this Airboss is the Swiss-made Sellita SW200 that is visible through the translucent exhibition case back. It offers a 38-hour power reserve. It is an alternative to ETA, Sellita’s strengths is its in-house, cutting-edge expertise. It boasts dedicated engineering, process engineering, machinery development, and movement development departments.

The Brand: Victorinox

Victorinox Swiss Army defines itself by the spirit of innovation and sustainability. Responsibly meeting the needs of the present – and ensuring that future generations will be able to meet theirs – requires innovative thinking of an unprecedented scale.

Robustness, durability and quality are the key requests. The brand first came to fruition in 1884 when Karl Elsener opened a cutlery workshop in Ibach, with the support of his mother Victoria.

The union is founded with the company supplying soldiers knives, which would later be famously known as the Swiss army knife. Following the death of his mother the brand became known as Victorinox, combining his mothers name and the word ‘inox’, an abbreviation for the French word inoxydable or stainless.

In 1989 the brand first launched its first watch collection produced in Biel, Switzerland. Today, the brand is built upon four key values; quality, functionality, innovation & iconic design.

Free Strap Adjustment

It's important that your watch fits your wrist comfortably and looks great at the same time.

Leather strap watches tend to fit without a problem for most wearers. However, watches fitted with metal bracelets often need adjusting to get the perfect fit.

This is generally a very simple procedure. We can do this for you, or you can get the watch adjusted locally.

Option 1. Specify your wrist measurement and we will adjust it before being sent

When purchasing a watch which has a metal bracelet with adjustable links, we will gladly adjust the watch bracelet to fit your wrist before sending the watch to you - free of charge!

Simply type your wrist measurement (in inches or centimetres) into the bracelet size section of the checkout and we will ensure the watch bracelet is adjusted accordingly before being sent to you. We will include all the surplus links, with the watch.

How to measure your wrist

You can measure your wrist with a piece of string which you can measure against a ruler:

You should allow about half a centimetre (1/4 inch) of slack to prevent it being too tight on your wrist.

In the event of you needing an extra-long wrist bracelet, which requires an extension to the original watch, we must obtain extra links from the manufacturer, and in this event, we will contact you to inform you of any possible delays or applicable charges.

Watches with bracelets adjusted by WatchNation are still eligible under our refund policy.

Option 2. Buy the watch online from WatchNation and have it adjusted locally

If you wish, you can have it adjusted locally by another jeweller or key cutter. However, you will have to cover the cost of this option yourself.
