Seiko Black Series Now Available at WatchNation
Launching 1st July: Seiko Black Series
Seiko has long shared an affinity with the world of diving since the Prospex collection was first released in 1965, since then Seiko has been exceeding expectations for divers with its innovative technology. Continuing to produce timepieces that guides you through the challenges in the deep blue, whether it be during the day or the night…
The Seiko Prospex ‘Black Series’ limited edition collection is inspired by the world of night diving. The 2021 iteration of the collection is comprised of three of Seiko’s most iconic silhouettes the ‘Monster,’ Tuna,’ and ‘Samurai’ - nicknames bestowed by a worldwide legion of Seiko aficionados. Each model has been reinvigorated accordingly with the ‘Black Series’ mysterious and alluring aesthetics, creating a dramatic collection of all-black divers watches.
The Monster:
The watch’s ‘Monster’ nickname derives from its robust shrouded bezel assembly that is said to resemble a monster opening their mouth and baring its teeth. Not only is the ‘Monster’ one of Seiko’s most distinctive dive watches, it is also one of their most functional model which showcases the culmination of Seiko's developments in watchmaking technology.
The Seiko Prospex Black Limited Edition ‘Monster’ SRPH13K1 is limited to just 7000 pieces worldwide. It comes presented in all-black emulating the mysterious world of the nighttime oceans. The watch’s defining shrouded unidirectional rotating bezel is presented in black and grey lending to its subdued aesthetic appeal.
The matte black dial is illustrative of Seiko’s ability to create truly unique modern timepieces, that still have a vintage feel to them. The dial consists of cream deeply applied hour markers, a cyclops lens day-date display and a bold luminescent handset. The minute hand features a striking orange frame that stands out against the backdrop of the black dial, emulating the bioluminescent light spectacle one may experience when night diving.
As with each of the other models in the 2021 'Black Series’ the ‘Monster’ comes equipped with a black silicone accordion style strap that has the Seiko wave logo pressed on it. It is powered by Seiko’s exclusive 4R35 automatic movement and it has a water resistance of 200 metres, meaning that it can be worn when diving.

The Tuna:
The ‘Tuna’ was first introduced in 1975 in response to a letter the company received in 1968 from a saturation diver in Hiroshima complaining that Seiko’s previous watches could not withstand the exposure too deep underwater pressure for prolonged periods. The watch’s nickname comes from its monocoque titanium case and protective outer shell that gives the watch it that distinct tuna-can look.
The Seiko Prospex Black Limited Edition ‘Tuna’ SNE577P1 is limited to just 5000 pieces worldwide. It encapsulates the true essence of a tool-orientated watch, as it is defined by its unique appearance and functionality. Measuring 47mm in diameter and utilising the same monochrome colour-scheme as the other models in the collection, this timepiece has a multifaceted appeal as it bold yet understated.
The dial consists of thick LumiBrite circular hour markers and a bold handset, with the collection’s defining orange minute hand. What differentiates this model’s dial is the addition of a date window that replaces the 4 o’clock marker.
As with each of the other models in the 2021 'Black Series’ the ‘Tuna’ comes equipped with a black silicone accordion style strap that has the Seiko wave logo pressed on it. It is powered by Seiko’s exclusive 4R35 automatic movement and it has a water resistance of 200 metres, meaning that it can be worn when diving.

The Samurai:
There is a long-standing debate amongst Seiko enthusiasts about the meaning behind the ‘Samurai’s’ nickname. Some theories suggest that it is because the handset resembles a samurai’s ‘Katana’ when they overlap one another, while others believe that the watch’s angular case is reminiscent of a Samurai’s helmet. Whatever the reason behind the watch’s nickname, it is a pertinent reminder of the brands rich Japanese heritage.
The Seiko Prospex Black Limited Edition ‘Samurai’ SRPH11K1 is limited to 8000 pieces worldwide. The watch’s sharp, clean-cut, tapered edges that look as if they have been sliced off by a ‘Katana’ sword are made even more sleek by its nightly design.
The uncluttered layout of the dial is a feature shared by each of the watch's within the collection, however the dial of the ‘Samurai' remains the most clean and compact, complementing the watch’s clean-cut appeal. The dial is lit up by the orange minute hand, which is reminiscent of a diver’s lamp illuminating the dark oceans.
As with each of the other models in the 2021 'Black Series’ the ‘Samurai’ comes equipped with a black silicone accordion style strap that has the Seiko wave logo pressed on it. It is powered by Seiko’s exclusive 4R35 automatic movement and it has a water resistance of 200 metres, meaning that it can be worn when diving.
