Seiko 5 Sports Honda SRPJ49K1- The Legacy of the Honda “Super Cub”

Seiko’s second collaboration with Japanese automobile and motorcycle manufacturers, Honda, comes in the form of a Seiko 5 Sports that is inspired by the classic design of the Honda C110 Super Cub motorcycle.

The Super Cub was first introduced in 1958, 10 years after Honda was founded in the South-Western city of Hamamatsu. The iconic motorcycle was designed with the straightforward goal: ‘to provide the joy of playing a useful part in people’s lives.’ The explosion in popularity of the Super Cub had vastly over-reaching effects on the world today, especially in Asia. The entire culture of many Asian countries shifted from being isolationist, as it provided a cheap and accessible form of transport, allowing people from small villages and towns to engage with one another.
Now Honda is the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world, having sold an excess of 100 million Honda Super Cubs alone. Along the way, the Super Cub’s simple attributes of style, reliability, and sheer usability have never gone out of fashion; to get people mobile and keep them mobile.

Many parallels can be drawn between the Super Cub and the Seiko 5 Sport. Both offer timeless designs that are able to withstand modern life in a busy city, thanks to their revolutionary compact motifs. Their designs abide by the mantra of ‘form follows functions’ capturing the very essence of Japan’s craftsmanship and its deep roots in Japan’s culture. And lastly, the Super Cub and Seiko 5 Sport signify both Honda and Seiko’s commitment to continuous improvement, as they combine their classic templates with ever-evolving designs and improved technologies.

The Seiko 5 Sports Honda “Super Cub” is one of two limited edition timepieces which have been created in collaboration with Honda’s world-renowned urban motorbike. It comes presented in a 42mm brushed stainless steel case that is brought to life by a vibrant green unidirectional rotating bezel. The dial pays homage to the design of the C110 through its bold two-tone colour scheme and 12 o’clock marker that is shaped like the front headlight, whilst the 1 and 11 o’clock indices emulate the front indicators of the Super Cub.
It is limited to just 6000 pieces worldwide and each piece comes with its own special box.
