Nivada Grenchen’s Antarctic Erotic Goes Gold for 48 Hours Only

At first glance, this might be one of the most traditional watches Nivada Grenchen has released this year.

The 38mm Antarctic case is plated in 18K yellow gold and paired with a domed white dial, applied gold-coloured markers and perforated leather. It is compact, warm and unmistakably vintage in character.

Turn it over, however, and the watch becomes something else entirely.

The surprise is on the reverse

Visible through the sapphire caseback are two 18K gold-plated penguins positioned on an ice-blue floe.

They form part of a mechanical animation powered by a specially modified Soprod P054 hand-wound movement. The scene moves as the watch is wound, creating a playful contrast with the otherwise restrained design on the front.

It is an unusual complication, but not one without a connection to Nivada Grenchen’s history.

The penguin has appeared on Antarctic casebacks since the mid-20th century, when the collection was closely associated with polar exploration. Nivada Grenchen officially registered its penguin design in 1965.

This edition takes that familiar emblem in a considerably less serious direction.

A properly wearable Antarctic

Behind the unconventional caseback is a relatively straightforward—and very wearable—mechanical watch.

The 18K yellow gold-plated stainless-steel case measures 38mm across, 12.55mm thick and 45mm from lug to lug. A double-domed sapphire crystal sits above the white matt dial, while water resistance is rated to 100 metres.

The modified Soprod P054 movement runs at 4Hz and provides approximately 42 hours of power reserve.

Buyers can choose between black and brown perforated racing-leather straps, each fitted with an IP gold-coloured pin buckle carrying the Nivada Grenchen emblem.

This is an individually numbered limited edition, but the more immediate restriction is time.

Orders are open for just 48 hours on 9-10th October. Once that ordering window closes, there will be no second release, with delivery expected from the beginning of February 2027.

It is classic from the front, rather less predictable from the back and available for almost no time at all.
