The Case:
The Victorinox I.N.O.X Mechanical 241834 is characterised by its chunky design and bulky dimensions. For instance, the case measures at 43mm in width, 13mm in height and 201 grams in weight, providing this watch with its indisputable presence on the wrist. The stainless steel case is almost entirely brushed, which is most likely because of its scratch resistance qualities. This idea is further reinstated by the fact that the case has been coated in DLC, which is an anti scratch coating.
Nonetheless, the most alluring aesthetic feature of the case is the deep bevel cuts found on the bezel. Moreover, whilst most of the hexagonal bevel is brushed, the bevel cuts have been highly polished. This gives the watch a sporty look, that is similar to the contrasted polishing and brushing found on the bezel of the Patek Philippe Nautilus. Moreover, much of the watch’s girth can be be attributed to sizeable crown and crown guard that surrounds it. The crown has been embossed with the Victorinox logo.
On the flip side there is an open case back that allows the wearer to view the inner mechanisms of the watch. This displays the winding rotor that is signed with the familiar Swiss Army logo. Sapphire crystal glass has been used on the case back to ensure for maximum protection against scratches and shattering, likewise it has been used on the front of the case too.
The Dial:
The black guilloche design that dominates the dial predominantly provides this timepiece with its aesthetic appeal. Significantly, this is meant to to imitate the handle of a Swiss Army Knife, which is a subtle aide-memoire to Victorinox’s history as the first producers of the Swiss Army Knife. The texture provided through the guilloche design augments a level of depth. This is motif that is continued throughout the design of the dial.
Additionally, depth is provided through the rehaut. It features a multi layered design that is home to a white minute track that runs around the edge of the dial. It allows for greater legibility when viewing the watch from wider angles. By the same token additional depth is bestowed upon the dial through the inclusion of deep applied hour markers. They are extremely pleasing on the eye due to them being highly polished. Another elegant addition to the dial is the Victorinox logo that replaces the 12 o’clock mark. The hands of the watch are also typically chunky. They are polished and are filled with lume which allows for visibility in low light. A date window is also positioned between the 4 and 5 o’clock index.
The Bracelet:
Furthermore, the strap of this watch is certainly one of the most unique features belonging to this watch. It is made from wood, which emits a vintage feel. It has been back with genuine leather, that results in greater comfort when on the wrist. The Victorinox logo has been embossed into the leather strap, which magnifies the brands attention to detail. It fastens using a deployment clasp that is easily adjustable.
The Functions:
ETA 2824 movement powers this timepiece, it is a highly dependable movement that has been tried and tested. It has 25 jewelled bearings and it runs at 28,000 BPH. Offering the wearer an accuracy of +/-5.9 seconds a day, as well as a power reserve of around 40 hours. It also offers hand and automatic winding, as well as a hacking feature. It is water resistant up to 200 metres, so that is suitable for the purpose of diving.
