Mondaine Doppio Mirror Limited Edition: Reflection as Part of the Watch
Mondaine has one of the most recognisable designs in watchmaking.
Its red seconds hand, black markers and highly legible white dial were adapted from the Official Swiss Railways Clock and introduced to the wrist in 1986. Nearly four decades later, that visual language remains central to the brand.
The Doppio represents something different. Instead of returning directly to the railway clock, Mondaine has developed another design identity around curved surfaces, repeated lines and depth, and the new Doppio Mirror Limited Edition takes those ideas further, surrounding the dial with a reflective surface that changes constantly as the watch moves.
Limited to 300 individually numbered pieces worldwide, it is one of the most distinctive Doppio watches Mondaine has produced so far.

A dial designed around reflection
The mirrored outer ring surrounds a deep black central dial, creating a sharp division between the functional centre of the watch and its more expressive perimeter. The time, Mondaine signature and date remain positioned against the black inner section. This keeps the essential information easy to read while allowing the outer ring to behave very differently.
Its highly reflective finish captures the colours and light around the wearer. Under one angle it can appear almost white. From another, it becomes darker and picks up the tones of the surrounding room, clothing or sky.
The basic design remains the same, but the relationship between the black centre and mirrored exterior shifts throughout the day. The curved dial makes those reflections less uniform, creating areas of brightness and shadow across the surface.

More than a new dial colour
Limited editions are often created by applying a different colour to an established watch. The Doppio Mirror changes how the watch responds to its surroundings. Standard Doppio models use sunray-brushed finishes, curved dials and domed crystals to create subtle variations across the surface, and the Mirror makes that behaviour much more pronounced.
A reflective finish on a completely flat dial could feel decorative. Here, it follows the concave shape of the perimeter and emphasises the depth that was already part of the Doppio design. The result sits somewhere between a traditional dress watch and a contemporary design object.
Its layout is simple enough to wear every day, but the dial rewards the kind of close attention normally reserved for more obviously complicated watches.

A darker case for a brighter dial
Mondaine has paired the reflective display with a dark gunmetal IP finish across the case and Milanaise bracelet. A conventional polished-steel case would continue the brightness of the outer dial. The gunmetal surround instead frames it, helping the mirrored ring appear even more prominent.
The 41mm case is made from polished 316L stainless steel, and although its diameter gives the watch a clear presence, the comparatively slim profile and short, downward-facing lugs should prevent it from feeling overly substantial.
The product specification gives the case thickness as 8.9mm, including the curved sapphire crystal.
That double-domed crystal has an anti-reflective coating. It preserves the rounded appearance central to the Doppio while reducing unwanted glare over a dial that already creates plenty of intentional reflection.
The watch weighs 85 grams and offers 50 metres of water resistance. It is not intended to be a sports watch, but the specification is sufficient for the situations an everyday design-led watch is likely to encounter.

The Milanaise bracelet completes the idea
A dark stainless-steel mesh bracelet continues the architectural character of the watch.
The tightly woven surface provides texture without introducing another solid shape or competing with the dial. It also catches light in a subtler way, creating a visual connection with the mirrored ring while maintaining the darker overall finish.
At 20mm wide, the bracelet meets the case with conventional straight ends rather than trying to imitate an integrated design.
That keeps the Doppio looking light and uncomplicated on the wrist. It also means the watch can adopt a very different character on another compatible 20mm strap, should its owner ever wish to move away from the original mesh.
The supplied bracelet is arguably the most coherent choice, however. Its combination of flexibility, fine detail and dark colour feels particularly well suited to the Mirror Edition.

Swiss-made quartz without distraction
Power comes from the Swiss Ronda 515 quartz movement.
It provides hours, minutes, seconds and a date display, with an expected battery life of approximately 45 months.
A mechanical movement might have added another point of discussion, but it would not necessarily have improved the idea.
The Doppio Mirror is about the dial and the way it interacts with light. Quartz keeps the watch slim, accurate and straightforward to own, without requiring the case to become thicker or the design to accommodate a mechanical display.
It also keeps the price at £329.
That places the emphasis where Mondaine clearly intended it to be: on original Swiss design rather than mechanical complexity added for its own sake.
The watch is Swiss Made and forms part of a collection assembled at Mondaine’s Swiss manufacturing facility.

Individually numbered to 300 pieces
Production is limited to 300 watches worldwide.
Each example receives its own individual number on the caseback, alongside the circular Doppio emblem. Unlike an open edition or temporary seasonal colour, there will be a defined final watch in the series.
The restricted production feels appropriate here because the Mirror is more than a minor variation.
It takes the details that established the Doppio—the curved dial, doubled lines and interaction with light—and brings them into much sharper focus. The result remains recognisably Mondaine, but it occupies very different territory from the white-dial railway watches for which the brand is best known.
For existing Mondaine collectors, it shows how far the brand can move beyond that familiar design without losing its identity.
For anyone encountering the Doppio for the first time, it offers a Swiss-made limited edition with a genuinely unusual dial, strong everyday practicality and a price that remains relatively approachable.
