ABOUT FOSSIL WATCHES

Why Fossil?

Fossil has always treated the design of the watch as part of the reason to own it.

That can mean the industrial knurling of Machine, the compact rectangular case of Raquel, an open automatic Townsman or the analogue-digital display of Big Tic.

The current collection is particularly varied, moving between familiar Fossil designs and ideas pulled from the brand's own archive, alongside smaller cases, shaped watches and more ambitious mechanical pieces.

There isn't one Fossil look.

There are several recognisable ones.

about fossil watches

A Pioneer in Watch Design

Fossil has been making watches since the 1980s, and its influence goes well beyond its own name.

The brand helped shape the modern designer-watch market, proving that a watch could be bought for its design, personality and everyday wearability just as much as for the movement inside.

That approach became central to the fashion-watch category that followed.

Fossil knows how to build recognisable watch families, how to use case shape and proportion properly, and when a quartz movement, automatic calibre or analogue-digital display best suits the idea.

The common thread is that Fossil starts with the watch people want to wear, then builds the movement and materials around it.

about fossil watches

what's inside a fossil watch?

Quartz

Most Fossil watches use battery-powered quartz movements. They are accurate, easy to live with and do not need winding, which makes them well suited to everything from compact Raquel and Harlow designs to larger chronographs and multifunction watches.

Automatic

Fossil also makes automatic mechanical watches, where movement of the wrist turns a rotor and winds the mainspring. In models such as Townsman and Machine X-1, Fossil often makes that mechanism visible through open or skeletonised dials.

Ana-Digi

Big Tic combines analogue hands with a digital display. The current Townsman Big Tic uses that digital element to animate Tourbillon-style gears beneath the hands, mechanical in appearance, but entirely electronic in execution.
