Description

Seiko Prospex Glacier Save The Ocean 1968 Re-Interpretation Automatic Blue Dial Stainless Steel Bracelet Men’s Watch SPB299J1

This specific design is inspired by Seiko’s 1968 Diver’s 300m watch – the first and highest of world standard hi-beat calibre diver’s – an important milestone in Seiko’s six decades of innovation in diving watches. It was worn for the first Japanese summit of Mount Everest.

This ‘Save the Ocean’ Special Edition, inspired by the ice of Antarctica, expresses the accumulation of time – linking the Antarctic history of Seiko diver’s watches with the time it takes for a glacier to form into its beautiful structure. The dial pattern and colour express the natural formations and pressure the glacier underwent during its long cooling period. Glaciers formed during the ice age, approximately 150 to 3 million years ago.

Prospex is a combination of the words ‘Professional’ and ‘Specifications.’ These timepieces are designed to be practical, reliable and durable within extreme or everyday environments, for experts, sports lovers and adventure seekers alike. Since launching Japan’s first diver’s watch in 1965, Seiko’s innovative watchmaking has changed global dive watch standards.

Seiko donates a portion of proceeds from Save The Ocean models to the PADI Aware Foundation’s Marine Debris programme, the world’s largest underwater clean-up initiative.

The Case:

The Seiko Prospex SPB299J1 is housed in a robust 40.5 mm stainless steel case that has been treated to a combination of brushed and polished finishes. The case’s imposing silhouette can be attributed to its ultra-angular and bulky lugs. The bevelled edges of the lugs have been treated to a polished finish, which gives the case a clean, sharp feel. A screw-down crown is located at 4 on the side, which is located there to prevent it from digging into the wearer’s wrist. A bold uni-directional count-up bezel is positioned atop of the case. It is presented in an iridescent blue tone with white accents and a lume pip at 12 o’clock. The walls of the bezel are knurled which enables it to be easily rotated. The sapphire crystal has been treated to an anti-reflective coating.

The Dial:

The unique textured icy blue dial expresses the natural formations and pressure the glacier underwent during its long cooling period. It showcases an uncomplicated layout which permits optimum legibility. It exhibits a combination of silver framed circular hour-markers and silver framed baton-hour markers that are located at each of the cardinal points on the dial. Each of the hour markers are filled with luminescent material, which allows the dial to be read in the dark. The 3 o’clock marker is replaced by a date-display window. The brushed silver baton handset is also filled with a luminescent material. A black 60-second track is located around the edge of the dial.

The Bracelet:

The SPB299J1 is presented on an oyster-style 3-link stainless steel bracelet that has been treated to a brushed finish. It features a three-fold clasp with secure lock and a push button release with a diver extender.

The Functions:

Seiko’s 6R35 calibre automatic movement powers this timepiece, it offers an accuracy of +15/-25 seconds per day and a power reserve of 70 hours when fully charged. It is water resistant to 200 metres, which means it can be worn when diving.

Free Strap Adjustment

It's important that your watch fits your wrist comfortably and looks great at the same time.

Leather strap watches tend to fit without a problem for most wearers. However, watches fitted with metal bracelets often need adjusting to get the perfect fit.

This is generally a very simple procedure. We can do this for you, or you can get the watch adjusted locally.

Option 1. Specify your wrist measurement and we will adjust it before being sent

When purchasing a watch which has a metal bracelet with adjustable links, we will gladly adjust the watch bracelet to fit your wrist before sending the watch to you - free of charge!

Simply type your wrist measurement (in inches or centimetres) into the bracelet size section of the checkout and we will ensure the watch bracelet is adjusted accordingly before being sent to you. We will include all the surplus links, with the watch.

How to measure your wrist

You can measure your wrist with a piece of string which you can measure against a ruler:

You should allow about half a centimetre (1/4 inch) of slack to prevent it being too tight on your wrist.

In the event of you needing an extra-long wrist bracelet, which requires an extension to the original watch, we must obtain extra links from the manufacturer, and in this event, we will contact you to inform you of any possible delays or applicable charges.

Watches with bracelets adjusted by WatchNation are still eligible under our refund policy.

Option 2. Buy the watch online from WatchNation and have it adjusted locally

If you wish, you can have it adjusted locally by another jeweller or key cutter. However, you will have to cover the cost of this option yourself.
