Description

Maurice Lacroix Aikon Automatic Chronograph 44mm Black Dial Silver Steel Bracelet Men’s Watch AI6038-SS002-330-1 RRP £2,450

The Case:

The Maurice LaCroix Aikon Automatic AI6038-SS002-330-1 measures in at 44mm wide and 15mm thick this shape stainless steel case certainly makes for a noticeable timepiece. One of the standout features of the watch is the ‘Claws’ that surround the bezel, this is an instantly recognisable addition which helps define the refined shape of the case. This sharp definition of the case gives the watch a crisp feel, providing it with a more modern look and sport feel to it. A delicate complement to the claws is the polishing of the outer edge of the bezel, which make the polished claws seem more uniform to the bezel instead of sitting on top of it.

The inclusion of oversized crew down pushers make the size of the watch even more prominent. This a highly sought after feature for collectors interested in chronograph timepieces, notably on the Rolex Daytona. Although the watch’s dimensions and size does make it a relatively heavy model, the tapered angles of the case and integrate lugs provide the wearer with a comfortable fit on their wrist.

The Dial:

Thinner, elegant and more refined silver indices are one of the many subtle new features this watch brandishes. Notably, the hands are silver and rhodium plated which looks great when the light glimmers of it. The bijou handset creates more space for a larger logo and ‘Automatic’ text that sits above the 6 o’clock index. Also, a matching date window sits beside the the 3 o’clock index.

The design of the dial is one of the most attractive features of the design. The The Clous de Paris dial design and the sun brushed face create a shimmering effect when the sunlight bounces of it. The term ‘Clous de Paris’ directly translates to ‘nails of Paris’, due to it looking similar to hobnails. It is a decorative technique which is frequently applied to enhance the appearance of metal parts especially in rotors and dials. It is a technique that has been used since the 18th century and it is a reflection of the companies Frankish roots. This is accentuated by the depth of the of the dial, which reduces the glare when looking at the dial. The contrasting colour of the steel inner wall with the blue chapter ring and the white dial is pleasing on the eye.

Thinner, elegant and more refined polished silver indices are one of the many subtle new features this watch brandishes. Notably, the hands are silver and rhodium plated which looks great when the light glimmers of it. The subtle sizing of the indices leave adequate spacing for the aquatic blue chronographs at 6, 9 and 12 o’clock, which feature an alluring circular finish. The day date window completes the dial, as it finds itself situated in-between the ‘Maurice LaCroix’ logo and the ‘Automatic’ logo. The silver polished edges of the window fit perfectly with the silver polished indices.

The Bracelet:

The standout feature of this timepiece is the bracelet, it underscores the meticulous craftsmanship that went into this watch, is the bracelet. It consists of a five link alternating brushed steel design. The bracelet fastens using a hidden butterfly clasp, that has a ‘perlage’ design. This personal touch highlights Maurice LaCroix’s peerless attention to detail, as it is something only the wearer will see when taking the watch on and off. The addition of a quick release butterfly buckle makes this process smooth and easy.

This Maurice LaCroix Aikon Chronograph Automatic AI6038-SS002-330-1 offers you an affordable luxury sporty dress watch with great functionality and slick design. It has also established itself as one of the most comfortable bracelets within its price bracket.

Aikon family:

The Maurice LaCroix Aikon Automatic was first released in 2018, two years after the introduction of the Aikon Quartz line. The Aikon Quartz echoed the design code of the iconic Calypso, which became a definitive piece in Maurice LaCroix’s rise through the ranks of affordable luxury watches in the 1990s. For example, it features an integrated and water resistant case, the six-arm bezel surrounding a flat sapphire crystal and the strap marked with an applied M logo.

In 2016, Maurice LaCroix began producing the quartz AIKON, which is a modern reinterpretation of the iconic Calypso. The quartz Aikon was further developed in 2018, as the AIKON automatic range was released. Finally, in 2020, we saw the family take on a new, more urban and eternal sporty-chic look with the extension of the AIKON Quartz line.

History:

Having only been founded in 1975 as part of Desco von Schulthess of Zurich, Maurice LaCroix Watches have enjoyed a rapid ascension to become the pinnacle of Swiss watchmaking. The company’s roots date back to 1889, as it was involved in the silk trade. Prior to the birth of Maurice LaCroix, in 1975, the company had been producing watch components for other vendors. However, due to the increasing popularity of Maurice they had to stop producing components for other companies. The launch of their high-end collection Les Mécaniquesin 1990 marked Maurice LaCroix’s expansion. For instance, it now boasts partnerships with FC Barcelona, Red Bull Cliff Diving and Justin Rose.

They have also picked up scores of awards and patents in the process. Notably, they have enjoyed great success at the RedDot Ceremony over the years. For example, they have received the prestigious Red Dot Design Award for several years running, 2019 proved no exception for Maurice LaCroix, with the jury members being won over by the new AIKON Automatic Skeleton. This reward underscores Maurice LaCroix’s commitment to always producing watches inspired by their distinguished innovation, precision and craftsmanship.

Each Maurice LaCroix timepiece is an expert blend of tradition, creative development and cutting-edge technology. Manifesting the maison’s ‘tradition for creating open worked watches, imbued with visual lightness and torsional strength.’ Meaning that every watch that leaves their state-of-the-art workshop in Mount Falcon is perfect in form as well as function.

Free Strap Adjustment

It's important that your watch fits your wrist comfortably and looks great at the same time.

Leather strap watches tend to fit without a problem for most wearers. However, watches fitted with metal bracelets often need adjusting to get the perfect fit.

This is generally a very simple procedure. We can do this for you, or you can get the watch adjusted locally.

Option 1. Specify your wrist measurement and we will adjust it before being sent

When purchasing a watch which has a metal bracelet with adjustable links, we will gladly adjust the watch bracelet to fit your wrist before sending the watch to you - free of charge!

Simply type your wrist measurement (in inches or centimetres) into the bracelet size section of the checkout and we will ensure the watch bracelet is adjusted accordingly before being sent to you. We will include all the surplus links, with the watch.

How to measure your wrist

You can measure your wrist with a piece of string which you can measure against a ruler:

You should allow about half a centimetre (1/4 inch) of slack to prevent it being too tight on your wrist.

In the event of you needing an extra-long wrist bracelet, which requires an extension to the original watch, we must obtain extra links from the manufacturer, and in this event, we will contact you to inform you of any possible delays or applicable charges.

Watches with bracelets adjusted by WatchNation are still eligible under our refund policy.

Option 2. Buy the watch online from WatchNation and have it adjusted locally

If you wish, you can have it adjusted locally by another jeweller or key cutter. However, you will have to cover the cost of this option yourself.
